What’s new with Siri in iOS 10

Maybe I am missing something and not using Siri properly but she is rubbish ! I am in the UK and when I ask her who is the Queen? she shows me a web page for queen Victoria! Ok I then ask who is the current queen ? I get a web page for Queen the band ! Honestly rubbish !

So Siri is about the same then, you’re saying?

I agree. I would have guessed a picture of RuPaul should have displayed.

Isn’t that Queen though? Freddy is King!

Siri, like Google, both make mistakes from time to time and don’t always fully understand what you’re asking for. I use both and find both can be funny at times or simply default to a web search. But what I miss about Siri and think Apple really should put back is the tone notification of when she’s ready to listen. I don’t know why the eliminated that little “ding ding” when Siri comes on, it’s very helpful to know exactly when to start talking, and really useful if you don’t want to have to look at the screen to know if it’s even on like say when driving. Apple, please put that “siri on ding-ding” back!

7. I skændes

Det går ud over jeres sociale liv.

http://www.computerworld.dk/art/237625/svarer-igen-p-b-lge-af-ransomware-angreb-ny-webportal-hj-lper-med-dekrypteringen?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=RSS

Det hjælper No More Ransom med

Fix iPhone Not Sending Picture Messages by Troubleshooting MMS & iMessage

Many iPhone users will send and receive picture messages through the Messages app, which arrive as iMessage if the recipient and sender is an iPhone user, or as MMS if the person is an Android or Windows phone user. Typically picture messages send without any issue, but if you are experiencing a problem where iPhone is not sending picture messages, read the steps below to resolve the difficulty in short order.

Note these steps are taken on the user end with your iPhone, if the recipients phone is having a problem, you’d have to have them follow the instructions separately. Picture messages will work across platform to and from iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, and other devices, assuming the necessary services and cellular mobile plan are available. If the phone or recipient has no data plan or service plan, the device will not be able to send or receive any pictures without a wi-fi connection.

Troubleshooting iPhone Not Sending Picture Messages

These steps apply to all iPhone models running all versions of iOS, it does not matter which device or version is running on the phone.

1: Confirm Cellular Data is Active, Wi-Fi On

To send pictures through iMessage, the iPhone must have an active cellular data plan or wi-fi connection.

  1. Go to the “Settings” app and then go to “Cellular”
  2. Be sure the “Cellular Data” toggle is switched to the ON position

Cellular data can be turned off if there is an active wi-fi connection instead, you can confirm that by swiping up from the bottom of the iPhone screen and tapping on the wi-fi icon to be sure a wireless connection is active and enabled.

2: Confirm MMS Enabled

MMS messaging is necessary to send media messages across platforms, you will want to be sure this is enabled if you’re having trouble sending image messages:

  • Go to “Settings” app and then to “Messages”
  • Be sure the “MMS Messaging” option is toggled to the ON position
  • Enable MMS Messagingcdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/mms-messaging-enabled-iphone-300×165.jpg 300x, cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/mms-messaging-enabled-iphone-768×423.jpg 768x, cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/mms-messaging-enabled-iphone.jpg 900x” sizes=”(max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px” style=”margin: 0px auto !important; padding: 0px; display: block !important; float: none !important; border: 1px solid rgb(255, 255, 255); max-width: 100%; height: auto;”>

MMS Messaging is mandatory if you wish to send and receive picture messages from any Android, Windows phone, Blackberry user, and also any iPhone user who is not using iMessage.

    3. Confirm iMessage is Enabled

Using iMessage is how most iPhone users communicate with one another, you’ll want to be sure the feature is enabled if you’re on an iPhone. Some users disable iMessage, but it is not recommended to do so and the vast majority of iPhone owners should use the service to communicate:

  • Go to the Settings app and to “Messages”, then be sure that iMessage is set to the ON position

Note if you see “iMessage waiting for activation” then you may want to toggle the service.

iMessage waiting for activationcdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/12/imessage-waiting-for-activation-300×252.jpg 300x” sizes=”(max-width: 307px) 100vw, 307px” style=”padding: 0px; border: 1px solid rgb(255, 255, 255); max-width: 100%; margin: 0px auto !important; display: block !important; float: none !important;” apple-inline=”yes” id=”FF771229-CF99-4014-8E91-242B181D4414″ apple-width=”yes” apple-height=”yes” src=”https://o1sen.dk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/imessage-waiting-for-activation.jpeg”>

Sometimes simply toggling iMessage off and back ON again can also remedy issues with iMessage.

4. Reboot iPhone

Rebooting the iPhone can often fix erroneous behavior and other simple troubles, including an inability to send photo messages with iPhone.

  • Hold the Power button and Home button concurrently until you see the Apple logo, usually about 10 seconds

This forcibly reboots the iPhone which often fixes problems with message sending and other strange behavior in ioS.

5. Reset Network Settings

Sometimes resetting network settings in iOS is necessary to fix picture sending on iPhone if the image sending and receiving functionality is not working properly. This is easy to do and only takes a moment:

  1. Open the “Settings” app and go to “General” and then to “Reset”
  2. Choose “Reset Network Settings” and confirm you wish to do so

Reset Network Settings on iPhonecdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/reset-network-settings-219×300.jpg 219x, cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/reset-network-settings-768×1052.jpg 768x, cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/reset-network-settings.jpg 900x” sizes=”(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px” style=”margin: 0px auto !important; padding: 0px; display: block !important; float: none !important; border: 1px solid rgb(255, 255, 255); max-width: 100%; height: auto;”>

This will reset any remembered wi-fi connections as well as customizations to DNS and DHCP, so be prepared to enter passwords and any such data for wifi connections and routers again.

Other Considerations

  • Is the cellular reception poor? That can cause failure to send messages and picture messages
  • Is the recipients cellular reception bad or out of service? That can also cause a failure of sending picture messages
  • Is there no data plan or wi-fi connection available? Having no data service will now allow iMessage to transmit texts or images
  • Do normal text messages work to send and receive? If text messages won’t send from iPhone either, there may be other issues including a problem with the mobile plan

This happened to me and drove me crazy. Had 3 level 2 tech from apple, plus apple engineers working on the problem. Submitted all info to Verizion level 2 tech. And still unsolved. Could not send from phone or computer.
Then found the solution. My internet company ( Summit of South West FL.) did not keep up with the something! The work around and a temporary fix is to do the following.
Go to utilities then airport utilities then click on apple extreme then INTERNET and change the DNS NUMBERS to :
DNS SERVERS : the TOP LINE to 8.8.8.8
    LINE 2 to 8.8.4.4
    then SAVE
    RE-BOOT computer
This is the DNS / Google server: Below is the letter from computer company.

    Dear Mr. James
I want to apologize again for the inconvenience this issue has caused and the countless hours you’ve spent on the phone with all 3 companies. I have below the Google DNS
server info that you would need to put into your phone and computer in order to correct the issue based on other customers that has had the same issue. If you have any more
questions, feel free to give a call back.
Reports in CFL and SWFL of issues using Apple services, iMessage, iCloud and others. Changing DNS to Google 8.8.8.8/8.8.4.4 has been successful as a temporary
    workaround.
Verified on multiple customers that changing DNS does take care of issue.

  2. Storm says:

@James DeMayo It sounds like an unlikely fix (changing DNS addresses) for an iMessage issue, but this is *exactly* what happened to me recently, only with a different ISP here in the UK. I thought I was going mad at the time, so it’s good to see I haven’t been alone 🙂

  3. deSkyz says:

My neighbor and my sister in law are the ONLY ones with whom I have this trouble (they both have androids/smartphones). They can each tell I tried to send and msg me they didn’t get it, though my iPhone shows it sent! I’ve talked with apple about it to no avail. My sister in law sent me a photo of what she sees: the time followed by MMS. (In my iPhone settings, “send as SMS” and “MMS Messaging” and “iMessage” are ON.)

    Anyone know the fix? Thanks.

How to Reset Notes Password in iOS

Jul 25, 2016 – 2 Comments

Many users are password protecting Notes on iPhone and iPad, which offers a secondary security layer for especially personal or private data stored within the Notes app. Because the Notes app uses a different password from the general password used on the iOS Lock Screen, and different from the password used by an Apple ID or iCloud account, it can be easy to see how that Notes password may be forgotten or lost. In such a situation, you may wish to reset the Notes app password in iOS, which allows you to set a new password for notes.

Keep in mind that while you can reset a Notes app password, it will not reset or unlock any previously password protected notes within Notes app, as any previously protected notes will retain the old password unless it is changed or removed. However, resetting the Notes password will allow you to protect future notes with the new password. This could theoretically lead to a situation where different notes have different passwords, which is why some situations may call to change the Notes password rather than reset it, or to update the old password to the new password.

How to Reset Notes Password in iOS

Resetting the Notes password will set a new password for future notes being protected within Notes app. Remember, resetting a Notes password does not remove or change a password that is already set and locked. If you wish to remove a password from a note, enter the password first and unlock the note, then continue forward with the reset process. Here is how to reset the password for Notes app on any iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch:

  1. Open the “Settings” app from the Home Screen of iOS
  2. Go to the “Notes” section and tap on that
  3. resetting a Notes password in iOScdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/reset-notes-password-ios-1-169×300.jpg 169x, cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/reset-notes-password-ios-1.jpg 500x” sizes=”(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px” style=”margin: 0px auto !important; padding: 0px; display: block !important; float: none !important; border: 1px solid rgb(255, 255, 255); max-width: 100%; height: auto;”>

  4. Tap on “Password”
  5. 6. Choose “Reset Password” to reset the password for all notes including Notes on the Mac
  7. 8. Confirm the new password and set a hint (recommended)

Once the password is reset, any newly protected notes within Notes app will use the newly set password.

Keep in mind that if you use iCloud Notes or iCloud Keychain, the newly reset password will carry forward to Notes on any related iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Mac devices.

As we’ve mentioned several times but is worth repeating yet again, resetting a Notes password does not remove a previously set password on a note. To remove a password on a previously locked note, one must unlock the note by entering the correct password, then either change the password, or go through the aforementioned reset process to set the password to a new password. There is no method of removing a password from a note without knowing the proper password, which is why leaving a good password hint is important.

Can’t delete a Mac app because it’s still open? Here’s the fix!

How do you delete an app when your Mac says it’s open but it’s really, really not? Like this!

These days most apps on your Mac are easy to understand. You can even use Launchpad to manage — and delete — them like iPad apps. Sometimes, though, they still don’t work the way iOS apps do. For example, if you want to delete an app, but it doesn’t have an X when you trigger jiggle mode, or when you try to delete it old-school style in Finder, you get a message that reads, “The item “[app name]” can’t be moved to the trash because it’s open.”

Item can't be moved to trash because it is still open

It happens because the app is still processing in the background and, for one reason or another, that background process has failed to properly shut down. Cue all the cursing! Or, better yet, read on and I’ll show you how to shut it down and get it gone for good!

Note: I used the Rocket appas an example in my pictures, but it is only because I was removing an earlier version. I love Rocket and would never delete (It emojifies your Mac!).

How to close an app that you thought was already closed or can’t figure out how to close on your Mac

  1. Click on the Findericon in your app dock.
  2. Select Applicationsfrom the Favorites list.

    Opening Finder on the Mac

  3. Scroll down and double-click on Utilities.
  4. Double-click on Activity Monitor.

    Opening Utilities on the Mac

You can also just type “Activity Monitor” into Spotlight.

  5. Type the name of the app you are looking for into the Search bar.
  6. Select the app.
  7. Click on the Xin the upper left corner of the window.
  8. Click Quitto confirm that you want to quit the process.

The app is now closed and you can delete it from your Mac.

Any questions?

When things like this happen it just reminds me that it’s been several months since I last restarted my MacBook so it’s probably time.

I think it’s good practice to restart your Mac at least once a week, heck if you have one of the SSD Macs, at the end of the day you could just switch it off anyway, it’ll turn back on pretty **** quick

I totally concur. Except for my servers, I have all of my Macs set to auto restart once a week, usually around 3am to make sure all backups have completed.

Great article!

I’ve had this happen from time to time and this is how I do it as well.

For some reason i’m finding myself using Spotlight more and more now instead of opening Window after Window.inFinder…. Search ‘Activity Monitor’ or just first few letters to reveal suggested apps. It’s allot easier, and direct since u know what u are looking for in allot of cases. But if u don’t know, then ya, Finder is better.

FYI…. if Dropbox app cannot be closed for example. it usually means u have dropbox integration set… This always trips me up.

iPhone Contacts Disappeared? How to Fix Missing Phone Contacts in iOS

Jul 21, 2016 – 3 Comments

iPhone Contacts Missing Bugcdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/phone-contacts-missing-bug-iphone-300×187.jpg 300x, cdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/phone-contacts-missing-bug-iphone.jpg 611x” sizes=”(max-width: 610px) 100vw, 610px” style=”margin: 0px auto !important; padding: 0px; display: block !important; float: none !important; border: 1px solid rgb(255, 255, 255); max-width: 100%; height: auto;”>

A strange bug that continues to persist in iOS for iPhone mysteriously causes all phone contacts to suddenly disappear from the Phone app on the device. Most users will never experience the missing contacts bug, but it can be disconcerting if encountered.

This missing contacts bug is not subtle and seems to happen at random, with the Phone app losing the “Favorites” and “Contacts” tabs, as well as the Phone app losing all identifying contact information for existing phone numbers, making every phone number in the recents list appear as unrecognized with no attached contact name, picture, or any other details.

Obviously if you suddenly lose all of your iPhone contacts it can be a fairly alarming experience, since so many of us depend on the iPhone for basically holding onto our address books of colleagues and loved ones.

But don’t freak out quite yet, the good news is the missing contacts bug is usually really easy to fix for iPhone users.

iPhone contacts disappearedcdn.osxdaily.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/07/contacts-disappeared-iphone-300×39.jpg 300x” sizes=”(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px” style=”padding: 0px; border: 1px solid rgb(255, 255, 255); max-width: 100%; margin: 0px auto !important; display: block !important; float: none !important;” apple-inline=”yes” id=”18783D1E-934E-4A11-96AA-166E416D0781″ apple-width=”yes” apple-height=”yes” src=”https://o1sen.dk/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/contacts-disappeared-iphone.jpeg”>

How to Fix Disappeared iPhone Contacts & Favorites

  1. Open the “Settings” app and go to iCloud, be sure that “Contacts” is set to the ON position, if it is not enabled turn that setting ON again
  2. Force reboot the iPhone by holding down the Home button and Power button concurrently until you see the Apple  logo appear on screen, then release both buttons
  3. Once booted, return to the Phone app, Contacts and Favorites should be visible again as usual

For any instance where the missing iPhone contacts bug is encountered, the above steps alone should fix the problem. This is because it is rare that the iPhone contacts are actually gone, it’s just that a bug has prevented them from showing up, and the associations from iCloud need to be intact and the phone rebooted to get things to show properly again. There are some exceedingly rare scenarios where the contacts may be gone completely, usually by deliberate action by a user, and if you run into that type of scenario then you can recover deleted contacts by following this guide.

This strange iPhone bug has been around for years, though many users tend to experience it after updating iOS it can also happen out of the blue. Perhaps because it is so random and thus difficult to replicate in any reliable fashion is why such a bug persists and has not yet been resolved in the latest versions of iOS (iOS 9.3.3 included). Fortunately, the fix is straight forward, so if you find your contacts are missing, favorites are gone, and the Phone app in iPhone is blank, reboot the iPhone and flip iCloud Contacts back on again, and you should be back to normal in no time at all.

I had added a special ringtone to a group of contacts. After a time, those disappeared leaving only the default ringtone. I also wish there were a way to add a ringtone to a group all at once. As it is, I had to go back and individually change each contact’s ringtone. Discovered 2 different group’s had lost their ringtones.

Does the Wi-Fi on your Mac keep switching to another network? Here’s the fix!

http://www.imore.com/does-wi-fi-your-mac-keep-switching-another-network-heres-fix

Why does my Mac keep switching to another Wi-Fi network? How do I make it stay on my network?

The Mac provides a convenient feature that remembers the Wi-Fi settings of places you’ve connected to in the past. This makes it possible for you to reconnect when you visit a location again without having to go through the sign-in rigmarole.

It can also be a problem if a nearby wireless network you’ve joined in the past is stronger than your own. It can also be a problem when someone in your neighborhood is an XFINITY customer. Your Mac might switch over to the stronger signal, whether you’ve asked it to or not.

You can stop your Mac from switching to a different Wi-Fi network by removing it from your stored settings. You can also stop an XFINITY Wi-Fi network from popping up and asking you to join all of the time. Here’s how.

How to make your Mac forget a Wi-Fi network

You may have saved settings for your neighbors’ wireless network because they helped you out when you first moved in (that’s what happened to me), or you may have switched to a new network but your old one is still hanging around. You should remove them from your stored networks.

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi iconin the upper right corner of your Menu bar.
  2. Select Open Network Preferences…from the dropdown menu.

Opening Wi-Fi network preferences on Mac

  3. Click on Advanced.
  4. Click on the Wi-Fitab.

    Advanced Wi-Fi settings on Mac

  5. Click on the name of the wireless networkin the Preferred Networks window that your Mac switches to.
  6. Click on the minus (-) button just below the Preferred Networks window.

    Removing a network on Mac

  7. When prompted, click Remove. This will remove the network from your stored settings.
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Applyand close the window.

Applying changes to Wi-Fi network on Mac

You can repeat this process for all Wi-Fi networks that you don’t plan on using again in the future. For example, if you stayed at a hotel that you don’t plan on going back to, there is no reason to keep the wireless network stored on your Mac.

How to change the priority of a Wi-Fi network on a Mac

Comcast offers a special service to its XFINITY customers in that they can piggyback onto the shared XFINITY Wi-Fi network without needing a password from just about anywhere. That’s because Comcast’s routers from 2014 on are broadcasting the “xfinitywifi” signal. So, if you have a neighbor with an XFINITY account, your Mac might be trying to connect to it, even if you’ve never had Comcast before in your life.

The thing about XFINITY’s publicly shared Wi-Fi is that it’s everywhere and any time your Mac goes offline, it will pick up on xfinitywifi again, which is why, even when you remove the network, it might still pop up again. Instead, you should move the network to the bottom of the list.

When the xfinitywifi network is at the bottom of the Preferred Network list, your Mac will prioritize your other wireless networks first before trying to join it.

  1. Click on the Wi-Fi iconin the upper right corner of your Menu bar.
  2. Select Open Network Preferences…from the dropdown menu.

Opening Wi-Fi network preferences on Mac

  3. Click on Advanced.
  4. Click on the Wi-Fitab.

    Advanced Wi-Fi settings on Mac

  5. Click on xfinitywifi.
  6. Drag xfinitywifito the bottom of the list.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Applyand close the window.

If you are a Comcast customer with an XFINITY network and want to stop broadcasting the xfinitywifi network, follow our instructions here.

I wish IOS would let you prioritize wifi networks.

Sent from the iMore App

For a big excision of old WiFi data, deleting one at a time is a drag.

For the removal step, you can also mass select SSID’s, and do a batch delete. Just remember to check the little box in the pop up asking “do for all”.

Something is wrong with the edit and reply feature … Clicking either is blowing up into code…

When i restart my iMac, it doesn’t connect to the default WiFi Network. It doesn’t connect to anything i have to click on my Wifi from the list to connect every time i restart my iMac! Any solutions to that? Yes i did what you mentioned here in the past but it didn’t help.

One other thing I’ve found is that deleting a large number of SSID’s doesn’t always stick. Sometimes, some of them return to the list.

I’ve found that going into the keychain and then sorting by type to show “airport (something- apples way of saying WiFi)” and then deleting them there is also helpful.
Note, there seem to be two lists that you need to do this to, using the upper and lower lists in the sidebar: “iCloud & passwords” and “system & passwords” (these names being from memory as I’m not at my Mac.)
Finally, I’ve found that sometimes one has to delete some SSIDs from a Mac from these 3 locations (config panel once and the both keychain locations twice each) before all unwanted SSIDs are gone. (I don’t know if this is because of low bandwidth reducing the effectiveness of the iCloud sync of these, or impatience, so YMMV.)
